Business Basics - Grade 5

Guided by volunteer business consultants, young students come away withpositive attitudes about the free enterprise system. At the same time, they gain a deeper appreciation of how business fits into their lives and of the role of business in their community. Using colorful, fun activities appropriate to grade five, Business Basics teaches the fundamentals of business. The four lessons are structured to reinforce learning skills inherent in the fifth or sixth grade curriculum:
  • Organization: The skills and resources necessary to start a successful business in Canada are explored.
  • Management: Students gain an understanding of the role managers play in operating a business.
  • Production: Different production strategies and the impacts of productivity and quality on the success of a business are explored.
  • Marketing: The topic of marketing is introduced, especially the roles of pricing, advertising and selling.
