Program Overview

Junior Achievement of Sarnia offers innovative programs that stimulate and inspire elementary and highschool students to "value free enterprise, understand business and economics, and develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

JA Sarnia programs are activity-oriented programs designed to enhance school curricula and develop employability skills.

Programs are delivered in partnership with volunteers who bring first-hand business experience to the classroom. Teachers and volunteers are provided materials, training and ongoing support by Junior Achievement staff. JA Sarnia, a not-for-profit organization, is funded primarily by corporations and foundations, and offers programs at no cost to the students, volunteers and teachers.

JA Sarnia’s goal is "to impact every available Sarnia/Lambton student with relevant, contemporary, and responsive programming and earn unparalleled stakeholder loyalty as the business education partner of choice." The objectives of the programs are to:

  • promote interaction between business professionals and future employees;
  • develop teamwork, critical thinking and decision-making skills;
  • promote an understanding of basic business and economic terms such as production, marketing, research, investment, budgets, taxes, and credit;
  • build self-confidence and self-esteem in the students; and
  • understand the importance of goal-setting, planning and dealing with the unexpected.

If program quality is to be maintained, then JA Sarnia must continually monitor the changing knowledge and skill requirements of the workplace. This is done on an ongoing basis through feedback from our stakeholders, an exchange of information with other national and international Junior Achievement charters, and in consultation with educational partners.

Thanks to Imperial Oil for their corporate donation of $9,000 which helped offset the costs of the 96 classes/programs we delivered throughout the schools in Lambton County.
